Isla Cabin, The Roost, Blairgowrie, Perthshire

ISLA

Isla was the first. She arrived in the summer of 2021, and she is south-facing, which means you catch the sun from morning to last light on a good Scottish day. The panoramic window makes the most of it, and the fields and Sidlaw Hills do the rest.

Inside, the arched ceiling gives the space a generous, open feel from the moment you walk in. There is a king-size bed that guests sleep extraordinarily well in. There is a four-seater sofa to properly sprawl on, and a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, coffee machine, and everything you need to cook well if the mood takes you. The ensuite shower and heated towel rail are there for when you are ready to face the day. If dinner out sounds more appealing, Blairgowrie is two and a half miles up the road with restaurants and takeaways; you’ll find my recommendations in the Guide Information folder.

The hot tub sits at the far end of the cabin behind its own privacy screening. The fire pit is stocked and ready: marshmallows, roasting forks, logs, and kindling all waiting for you. Your robes and slippers are there when you arrive. The Smart TV can be watched from the sofa or from bed, which was a very deliberate decision.

On a clear night, the sky here is something else entirely.
